The chemistry to manufacture Nylon 6,6 Polymer from Hexamethylene Diamine (HMD) and Adipic Acid required the reaction of HMD and AA to produce a nylon salt and the subsequent polymerization of the salt to produce Nylon 6,6 Polymer.
INVISTA’s proprietary Nylon 6,6 Continuous Polymerization technology is a robust and efficient process for the production of Nylon 6,6 polymer from Adipic Acid and HMD.
HMD, AA and Demineralized water are combined and heated to form the Nylon Salt. The salt is then fed to an evaporator to remove the water prior to entering the reactor column. Initial polymerization occurs in the reactor column with subsequent polymerization occurring in the flasher and finisher. The finisher drives the polymerization to the desired intrinsic viscosity. The product is transferred to the pelletizer and subsequently dried and packed for shipment. INVISTA’s proprietary reactor, transfer line and additive injection designs ensure the production of high quality polymer.

INVISTA’s technology package will be designed for an annual capacity of 40,000 tonnes per year of Nylon 6,6 Polymer.
